19/01/2009: Women and Children First to benefit from V-Day performances

Women and Children First is delighted to announce that it been selected as a beneficiary of V-day London 2009, part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls - because of our work in empowering women in some of the poorest communities of the world. See more about V-Day at http://newsite.vday.org/ and www.vdaylondon.com

Performances of the "Vagina Monologues" and " A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer" will be held at the New Players Theatre, close to London's Charing Cross station, on 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 February.

These benefit performances include a brand new compilation edited by The Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler, featuring previously unpublished work by world-famous authors including Edward Albee, Jane Fonda, Dave Eggers, Maya Angelou and many more. Proceeds will go to a number of women's charities and each performance will be introduced by a special guest.

Saving Lives

Up to half a million women and three million newborn babies die each year in pregnancy and childbirth or soon afterwards, the majority of them in Africa and South Asia. For every woman who dies at least twenty more suffer complications which leave them with lifelong disability and pain.

Our unique programmes are saving the lives of mothers and babies every day. We need you to help us to equip women with their most vital survival tool: knowledge.
