24/01/2011: Over £400 raised for WCF at 30th birthday party

Women and Children First want to say a big thank you to Charlotte Lacquire, who contacted us in October 2010, saying she wanted to raise money for our organisation at her 30th birthday party in December.  It was a real pleasure having contact with Charlotte in the time up to and just after her party.  We asked her to talk about her fundraising experience - these are her words:

"For my 30th birthday in December I wanted to support a charity that meant a lot to me. I have 3 young children and was so grateful for the amazing support I received from my local midwives during my pregnancies, throughout labour and after the birth of my children, I can only imagine how awful it must be for woman without this support, especially when things go wrong during a time that should be so special.

"After a bit of searching I found Women and Children First (UK) via a search engine on the internet and it looked perfect for the people that I wanted to help. The staff at Women and Children First were so friendly and helpful, they even sent me a birthday card! My friends and family were only too happy to support this charity instead of giving me birthday presents. Many of my friends also have children and like me are so grateful for the support they received during they pregnancies.

"The Virgin Money Giving website was easy to set up and sent me an email each time someone donated, which was great to see. I had a party for my 30th and raised over £400 I'm so pleased that this money will make such a difference to so many women
."

As Charlotte says, it is a simple process to set up a fundraising page for a birthday, wedding or any other event and encourage your friends and family to donate to Women and Children First.  If you would like to do something similar please contact us - we'll be so happy to hear from you and provide any support you need.

Thank you again, Charlotte!

Saving Lives

Up to half a million women and three million newborn babies die each year in pregnancy and childbirth or soon afterwards, the majority of them in Africa and South Asia. For every woman who dies at least twenty more suffer complications which leave them with lifelong disability and pain.

Our unique programmes are saving the lives of mothers and babies every day. We need you to help us to equip women with their most vital survival tool: knowledge.
