Legacy of Sorrow in Malawi.
In DFID's Developments Magazine, Rosemary McDonald of Women and Children First reports on the stark facts and realities facing Malawi's mothers and children.
Malawi has one of the highest maternal death rates in the world. When it comes to maternal mortality it is all to easy to think of the statistics, rather than the sorrowful legacy a mother's death leaves in its wake.
In her report, Rosey reminds us that behind every statistic there is a person, family and community. In Malawi, Women and Children First improves the health of mothers and their newborns by establishing women's groups where women can learn how to have a safer pregnancy.
