New Figures Show MDG 5 is Not on Track
The WHO, UNICEF, UNDPA and the World Bank released figures today that shows MDG 5 is not on track. An annual decline of 5.5 per cent is required in maternal mortality ratios between 1990 and 2015 to ensure that maternal mortality decreases by 75 per cent. Sub-Saharan Africa showed a 0.1 per cent decline in maternal mortality, while Eastern Asia came closest to the 5.5 per cent target with an annual decrease of 4.2 per cent.
